| We are conducting a number of studies in ponds managed for the production of salt by the world's largest producer of salt, Exportadora de Sal. These ponds are shallow, and the bottoms of the ponds are therefore well lit. Ponds with salinities in the range of about 40 to about 120 support the growth of well-developed photosynthetic microbial mats. Below are some images from a field trip we took last year (June 2001) to the Guerrero Negro field site. |
